Monica Hwang Joins White & Case as a Partner in Houston

Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its Global Project Development and Finance Practice and Global Energy Industry Group with the addition of Monica Hwang as a partner in Houston. Hwang arrives at the firm from O’Melveny & Myers LLP.

“Houston is a key center of the LNG industry in the US, and Monica’s addition to our growing team in Texas will bolster our LNG offerings and strengthen our team’s capacity to provide clients with an unmatched full-service energy platform,” said Jason Kerr, Head of White & Case’s Global Project Development and Finance Practice. “Monica’s comprehensive experience across the spectrum of infrastructure sectors, including energy, energy transition, transport and water, is a significant asset as we continue to focus on building our energy projects team in Houston as part of the Firm’s broader strategy to grow our US practices to meet client demand.”

Hwang has extensive experience in both LNG import and export projects and has worked on the structuring and commercial contracting for a significant number of major LNG export projects. She also advises on midstream and downstream project and commercial matters, including gas storage and pipeline and crude oil/refined products pipelines and terminals. Hwang brings experience advising clients on customized joint venture arrangements and commercial transactions in support of new business ventures and/or M&A transactions.

“In addition to Monica’s extensive experience navigating major LNG export projects, she also brings valuable experience working on transactions involving upstream production, gas processing, and retail energy trading and risk management. This industry experience, coupled with her fluency in Mandarin Chinese, gives her a unique skillset to help clients navigate cross-border transactions,” said Jay Cuclis, White & Case’s Houston Office Executive Partner and Co-Head of the Firm’s Energy Industry Group. “We are very excited to welcome her to our growing energy team in Houston as we continue to develop a strong, integrated practice that can handle our clients’ largest, most complex energy and energy transition projects.”

Hwang is the most recent addition to the Firm’s Project Development and Finance Practice, following Peter Berg in Houston and Nadav Klugman in Chicago, who joined the Firm earlier this year. Her arrival also adds to the growth of the Houston office, which now has 94 lawyers.
