Lisa Ormand Taylor has joined McGuireWoods as a corporate partner in the firm’s Jacksonville, Florida, office, returning to the firm after 13 years as a senior legal executive with two leading international transportation and logistics companies.
Taylor handles public company reporting and corporate governance matters and has extensive experience preparing and negotiating contracts with shippers, motor carriers, railroads and logistics providers, as well as independent hauling agreements. She comes to McGuireWoods from XPO Logistics, Inc., where as vice president and assistant general counsel she handled corporate legal matters when the company expanded from 3,000 to 80,000 employees worldwide in just 18 months.
Taylor was vice president, assistant general counsel and corporate secretary for intermodal services provider Pacer International when XPO Logistics acquired it in 2014. At Pacer, she played a key role in the quarterly financial reporting process and in running the $2 billion company’s disclosure and internal controls committees and preparing proxy statements and other disclosure documents. She prepared, negotiated and reviewed a wide variety of contracts and managed outside counsel in Mexico, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Germany, the United Kingdom and Canada.
Taylor was a partner in McGuireWoods’ Jacksonville office before joining Pacer in 2003.
“Lisa’s homecoming is a real coup for McGuireWoods,” said John D. Padgett, chair of the firm’s transportation industry team. “Her experience handling complex matters such as shipping agreements and independent contractor issues for global companies will have real benefits for our clients.”
“Lisa’s keen understanding of the issues public companies face every day will help our corporate clients achieve their objectives,” said Richard W. Viola, chair of the firm’s Securities Department. “She also complements our already deep bench of former general counsel who provide our clients with unmatched experience.”
Taylor is a leader in Jacksonville’s corporate legal community, spearheading the development of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s North Florida chapter in 2009 and serving as its first president.
“We are delighted to welcome Lisa back,” said Jacksonville office managing partner Eric Bilik. “Lisa’s skill and experience adds another dimension to our already strong corporate practice and enhances our client service capabilities in Jacksonville.”
Taylor is a Wake Forest University graduate who received her law degree from the University of Virginia. She also has a master’s in business administration from UVA’s Darden Graduate School of Business.
“I couldn’t be happier to be returning to McGuireWoods. I’m excited about the firm’s growth, its focus on the transportation industry, and its commitment to client service excellence, which is stronger than ever. This is a perfect fit for my practice,” Taylor said.
McGuireWoods’ cross-practice transportation industry team advises domestic and international clients in all major transportation sectors with every aspect of their business operations. The firm’s corporate practice provides client-customized services in corporate finance and capital markets; corporate governance; cross-border transactions; mergers and acquisitions; private equity and venture capital; and securities compliance.
