Eversheds Sutherland has welcomed tax Partner Carmen Moss-Holdstock to its South Africa office.
Carmen, who joined the global legal practice earlier this year as head of tax, provides specialist tax and exchange control advice to clients on a global basis. She holds a LLM and Mcom (Tax) degree from the University of Cape Town and previously worked with leading law firms, both local and international.
Carmen specialises in advising large corporates within the financial services sector on various aspects of tax including: corporate, M&A, international, value-added and dispute resolution. She has experience in advising large companies in the mining sector and has provided specialist tax advice to large South African corporates in a number of industries including the banking and finance sector. Carmen also advises South African multinationals in respect of the South African tax consequences relating to cross-border transactions.
Carmen is a registered tax practitioner and is registered as a Master Tax Practitioner with the South African Institute for Tax (SAIT). Her recent and most notable transactions include:
the R35 billion Edcon Restructuring, providing tax advice on behalf of the lenders to the transaction;
listing of Dischem on the JSE stock exchange;
Life Healthcare’s acquisition of Alliance Medical in the United Kingdom; and
Sanlam’s acquisition of Saham Finances in Morocco.
