Global law firm White & Case LLP has further expanded its Global Debt Finance Practice with the addition of Sibusiso Zungu as a partner in Johannesburg. Sibusiso joins White & Case from Allen & Overy.
“Africa is a strategically important growth market for the Firm with significant investment opportunities, particularly in telecoms, banking, power and transport, which will drive consumer demand across the region,” said White & Case partner Eric Leicht, Head of the Global Debt Finance Practice. “Building a broader debt finance practice in Johannesburg through the addition of Sibusiso so soon after the arrival of partner Lionel Shawe will allow us to take on more, and broader mandates, for existing and new global clients who are operating and investing in Africa.”
Sibusiso is a banking and finance lawyer who advises clients including sponsors, project companies and lenders on a wide range of banking transactions. His experience encompasses general lending and international financing structures, trade and commodity finance, export credit supported financings, project finance, property finance, aircraft finance and restructurings.
“Sibusiso is an experienced lawyer who has advised on a number of important and complex banking and finance transactions both in-house and in private practice,” said White & Case partner Colin Harley, Regional Section Head, EMEA Banking. “Sibusiso’s experience together with his strong contacts make him a great addition to the Firm to advise our clients as they look at inward and outward cross-border investment opportunities across southern Africa and, indeed, the broader continent.”
Partner Oliver Brettle, a member of White & Case’s global Executive Committee, said: “White & Case has been actively advising clients across Africa for more than 40 years and we were the first foreign law firm to establish an office in South Africa in 1995. Our continued investment in our Johannesburg office, most recently through the addition of Sibusiso and Lionel Shawe and prior to that with the addition of partner Gary Felthun, the relocation to Johannesburg of partner Gareth Hodder and the promotion to partner of Craig Atkinson, demonstrates the increasing importance of Africa to our clients.”
