The global law firm Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner has announced the addition of a three-partner group of highly regarded transactional and regulatory insurance lawyers. The group includes the global co-leader of Dentons’ Insurance Sector practice, Bruce Baty, and his longtime colleague, Jodi Adolf, as well as Kelly Sullivan, a leading insurance transactional and regulatory partner from Polsinelli. They will be resident in the firm’s Kansas City office. Baty also will become a co-leader of BCLP’s Insurance Sector practice. Additionally, the group includes Fred Heese, who formerly served as chief financial examiner and director of the Division of Insurance Company Regulation for the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance.
“We are thrilled to welcome this talented group to BCLP and our growing, global Insurance Practice,” Insurance Sector Co-Leader Kevin Fischer noted. “Our clients will benefit from greater reinsurance and insurance regulatory expertise and the additional insurance transactional and InsureTech depth that this group provides.”
Baty has more than 35 years of experience focused exclusively on representing property and casualty and life, accident and health insurance companies and reinsurance companies in regulatory, transactional and litigation matters. He has deep experience implementing reinsurance programs and other alternative risk transfer vehicles, advising on matters regarding state insurance departments and advising clients with respect to insurance insolvencies. Formerly chair of Dentons’ Insurance Regulatory Practice Group and co-chair of the firm’s Insurance Sector, he will be a co-leader of BCLP’s Insurance Sector.
Adolf has practiced insurance law for more than 15 years. Her focus is on regulatory and compliance matters related to life, accident and health, property and casualty insurance, and insurance insolvencies. She advises clients on licensing and registration of insurers, discount medical service organizations and third party administrators, and InsureTech matters. She joins from Dentons.
Sullivan focuses her nearly 18 years of practice on corporate, transactional and regulatory matters within the insurance industry. She advises a variety of insurance sector clients on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and other transactional matters touching the insurance industry, regulatory compliance matters, alternative risk transfer arrangements (including municipal pooling arrangements) and transactions implementing InsureTech innovations. She also is a trusted adviser as outside general counsel to a number of companies across various industries. Sullivan joins from Polsinelli.
Joining with them is Heese, who formerly served as chief financial examiner and director of the Division of Insurance Company Regulation for the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance. He is a certified public accountant and a certified financial examiner with decades of experience in the insurance sector. Heese counsels clients on a wide array of insurance regulatory issues and special projects using the technical skills and knowledge gained over 30 years as a leading state insurance regulator. He joins from Dentons.
