Leading global law firm Baker & McKenzie has further enhanced its Corporate Practice with the appointment of James Thompson and Joanna Hewitt as partners in London. James joins the Firm from Linklaters where he is a Managing Associate in the London Corporate practice. Joanna re-joins the Firm from Olswang’s corporate practice where she is a Senior Associate, having started her career as a trainee and then an associate at Baker & McKenzie. Both join the Firm in January 2016.
James has extensive UK and international equities capital markets and M&A experience, having advised on numerous high profile deals for large listed companies. He also has strong private M&A practice, with experience for both corporates and private equity houses across a wide range of jurisdictions, with a particular focus on emerging markets, including Africa.
Joanna has significant experience in corporate reorganisations, private M&A and general private company representation across a number of sectors, including technology and retail. She has particular experience in cross-jurisdictional reorganisations and transactions having worked closely with clients across the United States, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

James and Jo’s appointments follows a series of strategic hires in Baker & McKenzie’s London office. These include: Dyann Heward-Mills who joined the Data Protection Practice from GE Capital in October 2015; Jonathan Peddie who joined the Dispute Resolution practice from Barclays in July 2015; and Kate Alexander who joins the Corporate Tax practice from EY.
