Leading global law firm Baker & McKenzie has further enhanced its Dispute Resolution and International Arbitration capabilities with the appointment of Andy Moody as a partner in London. He joins the Firm in early 2016 from Eversheds.
Andy has acted on a wide range of commercial disputes and has a particular focus on international arbitration. His experience aligns with Baker & McKenzie’s Energy, Mining and Infrastructure (EMI) focus, particularly in the energy sector where he has advised on numerous international upstream, downstream and renewables disputes. He has also advised on a number of financial sector and post M&A disputes, before arbitral tribunals and the courts.
Andy’s practice includes litigation in the English High Court and multiple international commercial and investment treaty arbitrations spanning numerous jurisdictions including seats in London, Paris, Singapore, Stockholm, Geneva and Washington DC.
Baker & McKenzie’s London Head of Dispute Resolution, John Leadley said: “Andy is a highly regarded commercial dispute resolution and international arbitration lawyer whose excellent experience and reputation in London and globally, especially in the energy sector, makes him an ideal addition to our team. He will work alongside our existing International Arbitration experts – Steve Abraham and Edward Poulton in particular – to build out our capabilities even further.”
London Managing Partner Paul Rawlinson said: “We’re delighted to welcome Andy to the Firm. His appointment will add considerably to our existing dispute resolution and international arbitration strengths and demonstrates our absolute commitment to growing our UK dispute resolution practice in line with client needs and the Firm’s strategic growth plans.”
Andy is highly regarded in the legal directories. The Legal 500 2015 Guide describes him as an “arbitration doyen.” He is also ranked in both the International Arbitration and Public International Law sections of the Chambers UK 2016 Guide, which describes him as a “superb practitioner” who is “praised for his ability to build a rapport with clients and with tribunals. He advises an impressive roster of clients on proceedings before major institutions in London, Geneva, Paris and Singapore.”
Andy Moody said: “I have been impressed by Baker & McKenzie’s Dispute Resolution and International Arbitration practices for many years and also admired its incredibly strong global platform. When presented with the opportunity of joining such a strong group, I could not turn it down and it is a great fit. I am looking forward to working with Steve Abraham, Ed Poulton and the other partners to continue to grow the practice in London.”
Other recent hires in the Dispute Resolution practice in London include: Jonathan Peddie, former Global Head of Financial Crime at Barclays; Nadia Banno, formerly head of litigation at the BBC; and international arbitration and litigation partner Steve Abraham who joined from Norton Rose. Andy will join part of a larger 750-strong Global Dispute Resolution practice that is recognized as market leading in the area of cross-border disputes and international arbitration.
