Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP (‘Freshfields’) is delighted to announce the appointment of Ben Morgan as a partner in its corporate crime and global investigations practice. Benwill join Freshfields from the Serious Fraud Office where he is joint-Head of Bribery and Corruption reporting to the Director of the SFO, David Green QC.
Ben’s appointment is a reflection of the success of the current team and the firm’s commitment to expanding its capability in this space to match client demand as a result of increased enforcement by prosecutors and regulators globally based on the criminalisation of corporate conduct.
It is clear that criminal enforcement activity has developed significantly, and that trend is not likely to abate. Clients need first class advice and experience, and very few firms can offer this capability on a multi-jurisdictional basis.
The corporate crime and global investigations practice is truly international and includes practitioners in all the major jurisdictions and across all the major disciplines that are needed on the most complex and challenging cross-border issues. The global team includes former prosecutors in the US, in Asia, in Germany and now in London. Ben will be joining the global team which currently includes four partners in London with particular experience and expertise in corporate crime matters acting for corporates and financial institutions. Between them they have undertaken numerous significant instructions in this area.
David Scott, Freshfields’ practice group head for dispute resolution, commented: “Ben is only the second lateral into our London team in all my years with the firm. This is a testament to the strength and depth of our practice and our ability to nurture and develop exceptional talent. But we will hire laterally when we find an excellent opportunity that adds something very real to our practice and which we are confident makes our offering to our clients even more compelling. In Ben we have found someone who fits that bill and he will be an outstanding partner, with some of the most valuable experience available in the market, who is also a strong fit for our firm and our culture. We are delighted to welcome him.”
Ben Morgan commented: “It has been a privilege to serve at the SFO during such an interesting time of development in the criminal law. It was particularly important to me when moving on to continue to contribute to the same quality of international work, and to do that in the right environment. I have no doubt that Freshfields is the right home for me both in terms of opportunity and culture. I am looking forward to being part of this first-class team and supporting the firm’s exceptional client base.”
Ali Sallaway, Joint-Head of Corporate Crime and Global Investigations in London, said: “Weare really delighted to welcome Ben who we know will be a great addition to our team. His recent experience is hugely relevant for our offering as we help clients navigate and defend themselves successfully in jurisdictions around the world.”
