Chris Brennan Joins White & Case as a Partner in London

Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its Global Commercial Litigation Practice with the addition of Chris Brennan as a new partner in London.

“Financial institutions across EMEA are facing the growing challenge of complying with an evolving and increasingly complex regulatory agenda, while adapting to continual market developments, most notably those presented by Brexit,” said White & Case partner Glenn Kurtz, head of the Global Commercial Litigation Practice. “Against this background, our financial services clients will continue to require both contentious and non-contentious regulatory advice, and the arrival of Chris adds further strength and depth to the support we provide.”

Brennan focuses on regulatory investigations and enforcement, and joins the Firm’s Global Commercial Litigation Practice from Addleshaw Goddard, where he was a partner and led the FCA Investigations & Enforcement team. In recent years, he has advised on a number of the most significant regulatory cases in both the retail and wholesale markets, and also has experience advising public companies on market disclosure investigations as well as individuals on Financial Conduct Authority enforcement and criminal prosecutions. Brennan has more than 20 years of experience across a broad range of financial markets gained in both private practice and in-house, with former roles including Head of Regulatory at Lloyds Banking Group, General Counsel for a global inter-dealer broker and as a senior lawyer in the Financial Services Authority’s Enforcement division.

“Chris is an experienced and commercially-minded lawyer with a thorough understanding of the regulatory system and strong relationships with financial institutions and hedge funds,” said White & Case partner Charles Balmain, Regional Section Head, EMEA Disputes. “Following the recent arrival of litigation partner Hannah Field-Lowes from Weil Gotshal, Chris is another exciting addition to the Firm who adds to the existing strength of our commercial disputes team in London.”

Oliver Brettle, London-based member of the White & Case Executive committee, said: “Our 2020 strategy includes a focus on profitable growth in London, in the global financial institutions industry and in disputes, and the arrival of Chris represents further progress in all three areas. He is the fifth partner we have announced joining us laterally in London in 2018 to date, adding to the seven internal partner promotions effective 1 January 2018.”
