Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP announced today that Nick Rumsby will join the firm’s London M&A practice. Nick joins Cleary Gottlieb from Linklaters where he has spent over two decades in their M&A practice, including leading one of their corporate groups for the last six years.
“We’re thrilled that Nick is joining our firm,” said Cleary Managing Partner Michael Gerstenzang. “Nick is a leader in the Public M&A field, and his experience and demonstrated track record in assisting clients navigate complicated M&A transactions will further strengthen our global M&A practice, with London as a key pillar. Our exceptional team of London-based lawyers focusing on corporate transactions, antitrust/competition and disputes provide top level service to our clients around the globe. Nick’s arrival will enhance our ability to serve clients at the highest level.”
He also spent two years serving as secretary at the UK Takeover Panel, which gave him invaluable experience in the UK public M&A market.
“I am delighted to join the London office of Cleary Gottlieb,” said Nick Rumsby. “Their M&A practice has worked on a number of impressive deals in recent years and the opportunity to assist in the development of their UK Public M&A practice was very appealing. I look forward to getting started work with this hugely talented group of lawyers.”
“Our M&A practice has grown substantially over the past few years and, despite potential market headwinds, we expect this to continue going forward,” said Tihir Sarkar, partner in the London office. “We view Nick as a key hire as we continue to build our UK offering. He is widely recognized as a market leading practitioner in UK Public M&A and we expect his hire to benefit new clients, existing clients, and our team enormously.”
Nick’s other main areas of practice include private mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, joint ventures and demergers, listing rule work, and equity financings. Nick contributes regularly to the Takeover Panel’s public consultations. He contributed three chapters to Takeovers: Law and Practice (Butterworths, 2015) and edited the Gore-Browne chapter on takeovers for over seven years.
