Tom Epps has joined Cooley as a partner in the London office, marking the latest key addition to the firm’s white collar group. He arrives from Brown Rudnick, where he was a partner for six years.
“Tom is one of the most well-known and accomplished white collar lawyers in London, and we are very excited that he will be leading our team in the UK,” said Mike Attanasio, chair of Cooley’s global litigation department. “His unique experience will further strengthen our already formidable white collar practice as we continue its expansion on both sides of the Atlantic.”
Epps’s practice focuses on white collar crime and regulatory investigations. He has vast experience representing companies and individuals in investigations conducted by all of the major UK enforcement agencies. Epps also has deep experience handling numerous Serious Fraud Office and cross-border investigations, and he advises his clients on a wide array of regulatory issues.
“Cooley’s robust white collar platform, track record of success and unique culture of collaboration provide a perfect fit for my practice,” said Epps. “I’ve been closely following their many successes here and am looking forward to adding my own skills to Cooley’s mix of accomplished litigators.”
Epps is recognized as a leading lawyer for representing individuals and companies in white collar crime investigations by a number of esteemed directories, including the UK editions of Chambers and the Legal 500. Prior to Brown Rudnick, he worked at Russell Jones & Walker and Debevoise & Plimpton.
Cooley’s global litigation department and white collar practice have grown significantly in recent months. Among others, Cooley recently added Andrew Goldstein and Daniel Grooms to its partnership. Goldstein is a former senior member of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s staff and chief of the public corruption unit of the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, while Grooms is a former chief of the criminal division of the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia and a former senior counselor to the US attorney general. The American Lawyer recognized Cooley among the preeminent global litigation departments with an honorable mention in its biannual Litigation Department of the Year publication. Cooley was also awarded Transatlantic Litigation Team of the Year at the Transatlantic Legal Awards.
