Dechert has further expanded its market leading global finance practice with the hire of real estate finance partner Aparna Sehgal. Ms. Sehgal joins Dechert’s London office. Prior to joining the firm, Sehgal was a partner in the London office of Sidley Austin LLP.
Ms. Sehgal’s appointment follows the recent hires of structured finance partner John McGrath and structured finance disputes partner Simon Fawell, with whom Ms. Sehgal works closely and are also based in Dechert’s London office. Ms. Sehgal is the fourth finance partner to have joined Dechert’s global finance practice in London within the last nine months.
A highly experienced real estate finance lawyer, Ms. Sehgal represents clients in complex multi-jurisdictional transactions involving secured senior and mezzanine debt, and complex intercreditor issues. Her clients include financial institutions, alternative capital providers and corporates. Ms. Sehgal also advises on the acquisition and financing of performing and non-performing loan portfolios, and insolvency and enforcement strategies.
“Aparna is a strong addition to our global finance team. Her extensive experience in real estate finance complements our existing capability and strengthens our offering to our financial services clients. We are further consolidating our market leading real estate finance practice in London, which complements our pre-eminent U.S. practice,” said co-leader of the global finance practice group Richard D. Jones.
Gus Black, London Management Committee Chairman, added, “We are thrilled to welcome Aparna to Dechert. Her appointment, which closely follows the additions of John McGrath and Simon Fawell, supports Dechert’s strategic growth plans in London to meet growing client demand.”
In the last six months, Dechert has grown its London-based offering with the hire of partners Sarah Smith, Thiha Tun, Michelle Bradfield and Marianna Tothova, as well as, most recently, John McGrath and Simon Fawell.
Dechert’s global finance practice represents leading investment banking firms, insurance companies, public and privately held corporations, private equity sponsors, private lending funds, hedge funds, mezzanine lenders, and commercial real estate lenders across a full range of finance services.
