Dentons Hires Leading Asset-Based Lending Specialist

Dentons has hired leading asset-based lending lawyer Steven Geerlings as a partner in its London office. Steven joins from DLA Piper where he was Head of International Asset Based Lending (ABL).

Steven concentrates on structuring cross-border asset-based lending transactions and work-out strategies. He is a seasoned banking and finance legal professional with more than 20 years’ experience in banking and securities law, project finance, and commercial and retail lending. He has worked with key financial institutions in the European ABL market, ranging from Dutch and UK clearing banks, various clearing banks in other EU member states and subsidiaries of US banks, to other regulated and unregulated financial institutions.

Paul Holland, Head of Dentons’ UK Banking and Finance practice and partner, said, “As we look to build our asset-based lending offering, Steven will be a great addition. Steven’s experience working in-house and in a number of European countries allows him to put legal issues in the broader context of clients’ business priorities.”

Steven’s hire follows the recent hire of Greg McEneny and the London hires of four partners in 2019, restructuring and insolvency partner Richard Pallot-Cook, bank lending and acquisition finance partner Simon Middleton, and derivatives partners Yusuf Battiwala and Luke Whitmore. Over the past few years, Dentons has also strengthened its UK securitisation and structured finance capabilities with the hire of partners Ed Hickman, Peter Voisey and Martin Sharkey, as well as grown its debt capital markets expertise with the addition of partners Nik Colbridge, Cameron Half and Nick Hayday. The Firm has also enhanced its corporate trustee capabilities with the recruitment of partner Kitty Lloyd.
