Both join the Firm this month.

Hugh joins from Hogan Lovells where he has been a partner for over 10 years. He specialises in banking litigation, particularly disputes involving distressed or insolvent companies or fraud and financial misconduct. Hugh has extensive experience of high profile, high value litigation and regularly acts for major financial institutions and leading insolvency office-holders. He has managed a number of significant Commercial Court actions, as well as appeals to the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court. Other recent hires in the Dispute Resolution practice group include Andy Moody who joins from Eversheds; Jonathan Peddie, former Global Head of Financial Crime at Barclays; and Nadia Banno, formerly head of litigation at the BBC.

Jukka joins from Deloitte where he was tax leader of their UK Business Model Optimization practice and a partner in their London Transfer Pricing group. He has over 20 years of experience dealing with transfer pricing and international corporate tax issues from both practice and industry and has practiced in a number of jurisdictions including Finland and Australia. Jukka advises multinational clients from across industries, in particular metals, mining, telecommunications and pharma. As Tax Leader of the UK Business Transformation practice, he will be advising clients on the design, implementation and defence of complex cross-border restructurings, working alongside the Corporate Reorganisations practice group. Jukka’s appointment is the latest Big Four hire for the Firm following the announcement of the appointments of Kate Alexander and Mark Bevington from EY in July 2015 and May 2013 respectively.

London Managing Partner Paul Rawlinson said: “Our London growth strategy is firmly focused on building on our existing capabilities across a number of key practice areas including Disputes and Corporate Tax. Hugh adds significant bench-strength to our litigation practice with his unique banking litigation experience while Jukka’s transfer pricing expertise will considerably enhance our offering to large UK and multinational clients. Hugh and Jukka’s credentials speak for themselves and I am delighted that they are joining the Firm.”

Hugh and Jukka’s appointments are the latest in a series of strategic high-profile hires for Baker & McKenzie in London.
