Eve Giles Joins Allen & Overy’s White-Collar Crime Team

A&O welcomes Eve Giles as a partner in the white-collar crime team. Eve joins from Kingsley Napley where she has been a partner since 2009.

Eve is a criminal defence lawyer, specialising in cases relating to international and domestic corruption, cartels, fraud, money laundering, insider dealing, market abuse and extradition. She is an experienced criminal trial litigator (securing wins in the libor and phone hacking trials, amongst others) and has defended cases at trial against the SFO, FCA, CPS and OFT (now CMA). Much of her work has an international element and she has extensive experience of dealing with cases involving the US Department of Justice, the New York State Attorney General and US regulators such as the SEC and the CFTC. This news follows the announcement that Hippolyte Marquetty is joining A&O’s white-collar crime team in Paris and demonstrates A&O’s commitment to the market across Europe.

Eve’s appointment supports A&O’s strategic priority to further expand its litigation practice. Global investigations is an area that plays to A&O strengths, given its cross-border nature and strategic significance to clients. Whilst much of the growth in global investigations can be attributed to the focus of US authorities on corporate conduct, UK prosecutors are now much more active in investigating major corporations and prosecuting them and their employees, or seeking Deferred Prosecution Agreements. Consequently, it is now a major risk area for corporations operating in the UK.

Karen Seward, Allen & Overy’s Head of Litigation in London, comments: “I’d like to welcome Eve to A&O. She is one of the UK’s leading criminal defence lawyers, highly respected not only by clients but also by the authorities that she deals with. She will be an excellent addition to our global team of experienced criminal defence lawyers.”

Lawson Caisley, Allen & Overy’s Head of Corporate and Commercial Litigation, comments: “We have one of the leading corporate crime practices in the UK, and the investigations group has great growth potential as both the criminal risks for UK corporates increase and the wave of global criminal investigations show no signs of abating. This makes Eve an ideal fit for the practice and we very much look forward to working with her.”

Eve Giles comments: “I’m very excited about joining the pre-eminent corporate crime team at A&O. Having spent the last eighteen years involved at the cutting edge of cases with the excellent criminal litigation team at Kingsley Napley, this move presents me with the opportunity to further build my practice from A&O’s truly global platform. I’m looking forward to advising on criminal and regulatory investigations alongside A&O’s high profile international multi-disciplinary and white collar teams.”
