Finance & Restructuring Growth Continues at Paul Hastings with Notable Partner Addition in London

Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that Mei Lian, a prominent finance lawyer, has joined the firm’s London office as a partner in the Finance & Restructuring practice. She joins from Shearman & Sterling, where she was a partner for over 10 years. Her arrival advances Paul Hastings’ amassing of impressive partner additions to its Finance & Restructuring practice in Los Angeles, Paris, New York and Houston and builds on the firm’s strength in London.

“We have invested in building a leading global Finance & Restructuring practice and are continuing to build on those investments to respond to our clients’ increasing need in this area,” said Seth Zachary, chair of Paul Hastings. “Mei’s track record of premier finance and special situations work, business acumen, and strong entrepreneurial spirit will help accelerate our trajectory in London,” he added.

“I have been impressed by Paul Hastings’ financial strength, practice growth, London expansion and forward-looking focus,” said Lian. “I am excited to contribute to the firm’s growth and to serve the firm’s clients globally,” she added.

Lian has a broad and extensive practice across a wide spectrum of high-end finance transactions. She represents hedge funds and alternative credit providers in connection with bespoke financing transactions and distressed and restructuring investment opportunities. She also focuses her practice on representing institutional investors as well as corporate borrowers, private equity funds, and sponsors in a wide range of leveraged transactions, with expertise navigating complex stressed and distressed situations.

Lian’s arrival follows the recent addition of leading Restructuring partner Guilhem Bremond and a team of seven associates in Paris.

Paul Hastings’ London Finance & Restructuring practice regularly advises on large, complex matters. Recent representations include advising Global Cloud Xchange, Gulf Keystone Petroleum and General Healthcare Group. The team has also worked on the $3.5 billion loan and bond financing for Bain Capital’s acquisition of WPP, the £700m recapitalization of the Co-operative Bank, the financing for Altice’s combination of Suddenlink and Optimum, and the £2.5 billion financing for Advent’s acquisition of Cobham.
