Global, sector-focused law firm has boosted its leading global insurance offering with the hire of senior partner Bob Haken. Bob specialises in corporate and regulatory insurance. He joins HFW’s London office from Norton Rose Fulbright, where he had been a partner for more than a decade.
This continues the growth of HFW’s global insurance practice, following its recruitment of insurance disputes expert Amanda Kujda in Houston.
HFW now has 20 specialist insurance and reinsurance partners throughout the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, offering a comprehensive range of advisory, dispute resolution, transactional, and regulatory services to clients across the sector.
Chris Foster, Global Head of Insurance and Reinsurance, HFW:
“Bob is one of a very small handful of partners with genuine experience and expertise in corporate and regulatory insurance. So we are very pleased to welcome him to HFW. Bob’s practice complements HFW’s strengths – particularly in the London market and legacy market – and his practice in advising lenders on insurance-backed investments aligns well with our existing offerings in aviation, trade credit and commodities.
“We have plans to continue to expand our insurance practice globally, and will actively pursue opportunities to further strengthen our offering to clients across our international network through the recruitment of leading practitioners.”
Bob’s practice covers a wide range of non-contentious matters for insurance clients, including M&A, capital, restructurings, regulation, outsourcing, distribution, equity investments (including in InsurTech), and Lloyd’s matters.
He has a focus on the non-life industry – particularly discontinued insurance (run-off), Lloyd’s, and international groups – and during a secondment at the FSA worked on the implementation of the Solvency II Directive.
Bob is ranked as one of the UK’s top non-contentious insurance lawyers by legal directory Chambers, which praises his “notable expertise in the Solvency II directive”. Client feedback in Chambers describes Robert as “very commercial and pragmatic” and “a very strong lawyer who is sensible and good to deal with”.
Bob Haken, Partner, HFW:
“I am delighted to join the HFW insurance team. I’m excited about combining my experience and expertise with the strength of HFW’s leading global insurance practice.”
HFW is a leading global law firm in the aerospace, commodities, construction, energy, insurance, and shipping sectors.
