Jones Day welcomes project finance lawyer Nick Collins in London

he global law firm Jones Day today announced that Nick Collins has joined the Firm as a partner. Mr. Collins will join the Firm’s Projects & Infrastructure Practice and be based in the Firm’s London Office. He was previously a partner in the Project Development & Finance Group at Latham & Watkins LLP.

Mr. Collins is a project finance lawyer with more than 18 years of experience advising borrowers, sponsors, export credit agencies, banks, multilateral lending agencies, and Islamic finance institutions on complex, large-scale energy, natural resources, and telecommunications projects around the world. He has extensive experience advising on project development and finance matters in the Middle East and, in addition, has significant experience advising on Middle East corporate finance and acquisition, debt capital markets, and M&A transactions. Mr. Collins also has extensive experience working on project development and finance, corporate and acquisition finance, and M&A transactions in Africa, the Russian Federation, and eastern Europe. Over the course of his career, he has worked in London, Hong Kong, and the Middle East.

Prior to joining Jones Day, Mr. Collins’ broad corporate and project finance experience included advising on a series of LNG projects in the Middle East and Africa (both sponsor and lender side mandates), including Qatargas II (Qatar), South Hook LNG Regasification Terminal (UK), Qatargas 3 (Qatar), Brass LNG (Nigeria), and Nigeria LNG (Nigeria); advising on a series of aluminium smelter projects in the Middle East, Africa, and the Russian Federation (both sponsor and lender side mandates), including MOZAL (Mozambique), RUSAL Khakas Aluminium (Russia), Sohar Aluminium (Oman), Qatalum (Qatar), and Emirates Aluminium (UAE); advising project parties in connection with conventional, renewable, and nuclear power projects in the Middle East; and advising a leading Middle East telecommunications company in connection with a series of multibillion-dollar acquisition finance facilities and its multibillion-dollar conventional and Islamic debt capital markets bond programs.

Mr. Collins earned his LPC at College of Law, Chester, and his LLB (Honors) from the University of Manchester. He has been listed as a leading project finance lawyer by Who’s Who Legal since 2011.
