King & Spalding has recruited project development and financing specialist Nikhil Markanday and arbitration and public international law expert Giorgio Mandelli as partners in the firm’s London office.

The new hires are the latest lateral partner additions in London during the last six months after real estate partner David Cox joined from White & Case, corporate and M&A partner Derek Meilman joined from Hogan Lovells and investigations partner Robert Dedman joined from Navigant Consulting. The London office now has 25 partners.
Nikhil Markanday
Markanday advises clients on the full range of project development and finance-related matters, with experience on energy and infrastructure projects, including power generation, refinery, LNG, and cross border pipeline projects across EMEA. He has particular expertise acting for both sponsors and lenders on multi-sourced financings, including projects involving development banks, multilaterals and export credit agencies. He has advised on numerous landmark projects, including the Hinkley Point C nuclear power project, the Trans Adriatic Pipeline project and the Intercity Express Rolling Stock project
Markanday joins the firm’s Corporate, Finance and Investments (CFI) practice from Ashurst, where he had been a partner since 2013. He is ranked in Chambers & Partners UK and Legal 500 UK.

Giorgio Mandelli
Mandelli joins the firm’s Trial & Global Disputes practice in London. He specialises in international investment arbitrations, with a particular focus on representing investors in disputes in the energy and natural resources and financial services sectors. He has acted as counsel and advocate before ad hoc and institutional international arbitration tribunals, including under the ICSID, ICSID Additional Facility, SCC, ICC, LCIA and UNCITRAL Rules. Mandelli also provides counsel on public international law matters, including advising States on significant jurisdictional immunity issues in the context of judicial proceedings before European courts.
Mandelli, who is qualified as a solicitor-advocate in England and Wales and admitted to practice in New York, was most recently a partner at Volterra Fietta in London.
