Global law firm K&L Gates LLP welcomes James Wyatt to its Energy, Infrastructure, and Resources practice area. He joins K&L Gates’ London office from Avonhurst, a boutique advisory business he co-founded in 2019 after practicing in the energy and infrastructure groups in the London offices of two Magic Circle law firms.
An experienced energy and infrastructure lawyer, Wyatt has deep knowledge in traditional greenfield and brownfield project development, project finance, construction, commercial operations, and M&A. He has a particular focus in low carbon and energy transition technologies, including large-scale nuclear, wind, solar, hydropower, green hydrogen, carbon capture, use, and storage, and battery energy storage systems, among others.
Wyatt also brings experience in upstream and midstream oil and gas, and advises on LNG, petrochemicals, and commodities projects. Additionally, he guides stakeholders in major transportation projects, including some of the most capital-intensive and impactful projects in the UK, Europe, and in the Middle East.
Wyatt advises a diverse clientele on structuring, capital sourcing, and executing transactions spanning the breadth of the energy and infrastructure spectrum. His practice extends from financing to corporate and private equity in relevant sectors, joint ventures, governance arrangements, and public private partnership structures across a wide range of geographies, as well as a host of sector-specific commercial arrangements.
“James joining our London and global teams further strengthens our diverse energy projects capabilities, in particular adding considerably to our existing nuclear experience, where we are currently advising clients on a number of projects,” said Tony Griffiths, managing partner of K&L Gates’ European and Middle East offices. “We are delighted James has joined K&L Gates.”
Wyatt’s arrival follows the addition of a leading, multi-office renewable energy team in Kansas City and Austin along with energy tax partner Marty Pugh in Washington, D.C., and maritime of counsel Felisa Sanchez in Houston last year.
Jeremy Farr, a leader of K&L Gates’ Energy, Infrastructure and Resources practice area, commented: “We are thrilled to welcome James to the firm as we continue to expand our energy, infrastructure and resources practice. His experience across the energy industry complements our global energy platform, and will have an immediate, positive impact on our work and for our clients across the energy industry value chain.”
K&L Gates’ Energy, Infrastructure, and Resources practice assists clients involved in the many aspects of the global energy, infrastructure, and resources space through a variety of legal disciplines, including, among others, project development, finance, construction, maritime, energy and environmental regulation, government contracting, public policy, cross-border investment, acquisitions, and dispute resolution. With lawyers in Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, North America, and South America, the practice serves project sponsors and developers in power generation, renewable energy, oil and gas, LNG, hydrogen, mining, transportation, and social infrastructure, as well as investors, banks, manufacturers, and contractors involved in the financing, building, and operation of these projects.
