Latham Adds Prominent Partner to its Highly Regarded Restructuring & Special Situations Practice in London

Latham & Watkins is pleased to announce that Bruce Bell will join the London office as a partner in the Finance Department and the Restructuring & Special Situations Practice. Bell’s practice focuses on advising companies, sponsors, and financial institutions on complex financing, restructuring, and insolvency matters. Bell joins Latham & Watkins from Linklaters.

He has extensive expertise in the application of debt restructuring tools to large cross border corporate and financing structures, with a focus on the use of schemes of arrangement both in England and in other common law jurisdictions such as Bermuda and Hong Kong.

Bell has particular recent experience advising debtors in financial difficulty and their boards of directors across a range of jurisdictions, including in the UK, continental Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. He also regularly counsels major UK companies on a variety of general banking and finance matters.

“Bruce is an exceptional practitioner with a stellar market reputation, and his expertise and product knowledge make him an excellent strategic fit for Latham’s practice in both London and globally,” said Stephen Kensell, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in London. “His formidable track record adds tremendous further depth to our very active and successful restructuring practice. One of our key priorities in London is the continued expansion of our Corporate facing practice, including in the public company space, and Bruce’s experience in this area is another major step toward that goal. We are thrilled to welcome him to the team.”

Scott Gottdiener, Global Chair of Latham’s Finance Department, said: “Bruce’s breadth of cross-border experience and his proven ability to advise all the different types of stakeholders in restructuring situations, whether they be borrowers, creditors, investors or otherwise, will be a real boost to our offering to clients across the UK, Europe, and globally. His arrival will further strengthen our top-ranked Restructuring & Special Situations Practice and aligns with our ambition to lead the market for both company and creditor representations, as well as representing private equity and credit investors.”

He graduated from Cambridge University in 1994 and was admitted as a Solicitor in England and Wales in 1998.

Bell is the latest partner to join Latham’s leading global Restructuring & Special Situations Practice during the last 12 months, following the arrival of Jessica Walker in London, George Klidonas and Suzzanne Uhland in New York, and Alexandra Bigot in Paris.
