Latham & Watkins is pleased to announce that Mike Turner and Shing Lo will join the London office as partners in the Emerging Companies Practice and Corporate Department. Prominent in their field, Turner and Lo have extensive experience in advising entrepreneurs, investors, and companies in Europe’s expanding tech scene. Turner and Lo will join Latham & Watkins from Taylor Wessing and Bird & Bird, respectively.
“Further developing our offering to the growing tech economy in Europe is a key strategic focus for the firm,” said Jay Sadanandan, Latham & Watkins’ Office Managing Partner in London. “Mike is one of the best-known legal advisors in European and transatlantic technology equity fundraisings and M&A, and Shing has a fabulous reputation advising founders, high growth companies, and investors in venture capital financings and M&A transactions. We are excited to welcome them to the firm.”
Turner has more than 30 years’ experience advising private and public companies and financial investors on a variety of European and transatlantic equity fundraisings and M&A, with particular expertise in the technology, telecoms, media, sports, and e-commerce sectors. Lo specialises in earlier-stage companies and regularly advises high growth companies, founders, and investors on a range of cross-border financing and M&A transactions.
Marc Jaffe, Global Chair of the firm’s Corporate Department, said: “Emerging tech companies compete on a global playing field, and increasingly are looking for a law firm with the capabilities to match their vision and legal needs. We have a ‘full stack’ offering with the experience to handle every legal issue for fast growth companies at any stage of the life cycle around the world. The addition of Mike and Shing, with their experience advising fast growth companies in the technology, life sciences, and other growth industries, will significantly enhance our European and global capability.”
Robbie McLaren, Local Department Co-Chair of the Corporate Department, added: “The capital pools that are seeking to invest in early stage and high growth tech and biotech companies are becoming increasingly globalized. Building out our London and European practice, combined with our capabilities on the West and East coasts of the US, the Middle East and Asia, will allow us to advise these capital providers in all the important markets in which they operate. Adding Mike and Shing to our fast-growing platform will provide a compelling offering to clients.”
“Latham is uniquely placed to be the first firm to establish a truly global emerging companies and technology practice, built for every stage of a company’s lifecycle, with the track record and technical expertise to serve high growth business from formation and fundraising to high-profile IPOs on the major global exchanges and other exit events,” said Ben Potter, Global Vice Chair of Latham & Watkins’ Emerging Companies Practice.
