Mayer Brown is pleased to announce that it will expand its contentious investigations and regulatory capabilities following the recruitment of Chris Chapman, who will join the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice in London as a partner on 20 March 2019. Chris will join Mayer Brown from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP as head of contentious insurance regulation.
Chris acts for banks, insurers and other financial institutions on a broad range of contentious issues, including internal and external investigations and both domestic and cross-border enforcement matters before regulatory bodies, such as the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulatory Body.
With his experience and knowledge of the financial services sector, Chris will be a key asset to Mayer Brown’s global platform, adding strength to the firm’s growing contentious and investigation capabilities.
“The development of our contentious financial services capabilities in London is a key strategic priority,” said Ian McDonald, the London-based, co-leader of Mayer Brown’s global Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice. “Chris’ arrival builds on the addition of two highly experienced London lateral partner hires in this area in 2018. We are delighted that he has decided to join us. He has the right mix of sector experience and technical knowledge that we have been looking for and will be a great asset to our practice and our clients.”
Sally Davies, London Senior Partner at Mayer Brown, said: “Chris’ appointment represents the continuation of our London development strategy and our targeted selection of talented lawyers who are keen to progress their practice at a firm that offers a truly global platform. Chris is an outstanding lawyer whose practice dovetails with our focus on financial services, one of Mayer Brown’s signature strengths, and the insurance sector. We look forward to welcoming Chris to the team.”
