International law firm McDermott Will & Emery welcomes John Burge as a partner in its Transactions Practice Group in London. John focuses on leveraged finance, special situations, acquisitions and other event-driven finance and restructurings. Burge joins the firm from Morrison & Foerster LLP in London.
“John’s strong financial expertise ranging from mid-market to large caps compliments our global private credit and private equity platforms and allows us to deepen our bench,” said Harris Siskind, global head of McDermott’s Transactions Practice Group. “Working alongside Chris Kandel, John will play a crucial role in enhancing our cross-border finance offering.”
A finance lawyer, John provides advice to lenders and borrowers on their leveraged, restructuring and investment grade transactions. He also provides frequent guidance to funders and borrowers on innovative lending products, unique loans, high-risk loans and litigated transactions. In addition, John advises funders on internal risk management activities, such as managing the financial aspects of litigation and restructuring loan portfolios.
“I’m thrilled to contribute to McDermott’s growth and am attracted by the opportunity to bolster its leading and ambitious transactional and finance teams in London, Europe and the United States,” said John. “I’m excited to collaborate with colleagues from our global offices.”
“Our global finance practice has grown considerably in recent years and we will continue to provide best-in-class service to market-leading clients,” said Aymen Mahmoud, co-head of the London transactions practice and London office managing partner. “John’s hire goes hand-in-hand with that; he is an excellent asset to the London team.”
This appointment follows the recent additions of Michal Berkner, Graham White, Fatema Orjela and Chris Kandel.
