McDermott Strengthens its London Health Practice with Appointment of Sharon Lamb

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce it has welcomed Sharon Lamb as partner in its growing Health Practice Group in London.

Sharon is recognised by clients as well as legal directories for her expertise in the healthcare legal landscape. She has extensive experience in leading large and complex healthcare projects and contractual arrangements – these include procurements, competition clearances, Trust mergers, accountable care systems, integrated and shared working arrangements, transformation of care projects, mergers, acquisitions, Trust administrations and franchises. She has an in-depth understanding of the provision of healthcare services for and with the UK National Health Service. Sharon’s UK Health policy experience is extensive and, in part, derives from Sharon having spent four years on part-time secondment with the NHS in London. Sharon has also led teams on a range of infrastructure projects including Private Finance Initiatives, LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust) and public sector funded projects.

Her client base includes hospitals, corporates, financiers as well as leading consulting firms and management consultants.

“We are delighted to welcome Sharon to the McDermott Health Team,” said Stephen Bernstein, global head of McDermott’s Health Practice Group. “Her arrival will continue the development of our London Health practice, which has been growing since the hire of Hamid Yunis in September 2016. Our vision is to develop the London Health Practice into a Tier 1 position in the UK and to also help globalise the leading position that we have, particularly in the US and Germany.”

Sharon qualified as a solicitor in 2000 and first worked in corporate finance and M&A before specialising in commercial healthcare law. She has an undergraduate degree in economics and finance and a postgraduate degree in law from the University of Cape Town. She is also a Senior Associate Fellow at the Nuffield Trust.

Andrew Vergunst who heads the Firm’s London office commented, “We believe Sharon is an excellent fit for our growing London capabilities. Whilst we have a solid health regulatory capability already, our focus has primarily been on providing strong health transactional capabilities. Sharon’s hire will add a greater depth to our regulatory capabilities and help us strengthen our credentials in health care, corporate and private equity transactions in the UK and beyond.”

Hamid Yunis, London Health Partner-in-Charge, added: “Sharon is widely known as a leading health lawyer in the UK, and we are very excited to add her to our growing team. Her extensive skills and industry contacts, coupled with the breadth and depth of our global Health platform, is a powerful combination that will enable us to procure and service work across the entire healthcare market.”
