Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its Global Debt Finance Practice with the addition of Monica Barton as a partner in London. Dual-qualified in England and Wales and France, Monica was previously a partner at Winston & Strawn and brings nearly 20 years of experience.
“We continue to see strong demand from global clients operating in the private credit space in EMEA and worldwide, and Monica’s addition demonstrates our determination to grow our role advising on these critical mandates,” said White & Case partner Eric Leicht, head of the Firm’s Global Debt Finance Practice. “Continuing to build our team in London also reflects the City’s status as a global financial centre and the world’s second largest legal market, and the ongoing importance of English law in governing cross-border financing transactions.”
Monica’s practice focuses primarily on acquisition and leveraged finance. She advises financial institutions, private equity firms and corporate clients on a broad range of cross-border financing transactions, including extensive experience supporting lenders and sponsors throughout Europe and other international jurisdictions on first and second lien, mezzanine, term loan B, high yield, leveraged recapitalizations, bid financings and related intercreditor arrangements, alongside dual capabilities in leveraged finance and distressed debt investments and significant experience advising both private equity sponsors and private debt funds on the restructuring of portfolio companies.
“Monica is one of the few finance lawyers in the London market to have worked almost exclusively with leveraged and distressed debt funds for much of the past decade,” said White & Case partner Colin Harley, Regional Section Head, EMEA Banking. “She also has a strong French market focus and will work closely with colleagues in our Paris office and, with both established client relationships and technical excellence, is an exciting addition to our leading banking team in London, Paris and EMEA more broadly.”
White & Case partner Oliver Brettle, a member of the Firm’s global Executive Committee, said: “Monica is the third partner to join our successful and strategically important banking practice in EMEA in 2022, following the additions of Paul Yin in London and Neeolferr Roy in Paris. In London, Monica also follows this year’s lateral additions of Paul, M&A partner David Lewis and capital markets partner Anthony Colegrave, as well as eight internal partner promotions.”
