Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its Global Commercial Litigation Practice with the addition of Steven Baker as a new partner in London. Previously a partner at Olswang and Bird & Bird, he joins White & Case from Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, where he was a partner, and brings more than 25 years of experience.
“Technology disputes is a growth sector in the London market, and in line with the focus of our 2020 strategy on growth in the global tech industry, our goal is to continue expanding our role advising clients on these matters,” said White & Case partner Glenn Kurtz, head of the Firm’s Global Commercial Litigation Practice. “The importance of London as a global financial and legal centre, and of the continued use of English law for cross-border dispute resolution, continues and Steven’s arrival adds further strength and depth to the support we provide.”
Baker, who joins the Firm’s Global Commercial Litigation Practice, advises clients on complex, multijurisdictional disputes under general commercial law and private international law, with a particular focus on the technology and communications, banking, financial services and commodities sectors.
“Steven is an experienced and dynamic tech disputes lawyer with proven leadership skills, a track record of building successful tech disputes practices and a broader contentious skill set that embraces financial services and general litigation,” said White & Case partner Charles Balmain, Regional Section Head, EMEA Disputes. “Following the recent arrivals of Hannah Field-Lowes from Weil Gotshal and Chris Brennan from Addleshaw Goddard, Steven is another exciting addition to the Firm who complements and adds further strength to the existing commercial disputes team in London.”
Oliver Brettle, London-based member of White & Case’s global Executive Committee, said: “Our 2020 strategy includes a focus on profitable growth in London, in both the global technology and global financial institutions industries, and in disputes. As we continue to take the fight to the magic circle, the addition of Steven drives us forward in all four areas. He is the ninth partner we have announced joining us laterally in London during 2018 to date, adding to the seven internal partner promotions that were effective on January 1, 2018.”
