Highly regarded corporate lawyer Paul Dunbar, whose practice focuses primarily on private equity and special situations funds, has joined Vinson & Elkins as a partner. He will reside in the firm’s London office. Dunbar was previously a partner at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP in London.
“Growing our London private equity practice is a key element of the firm’s strategy, and Paul fits in perfectly with our team and culture,” said Keith Fullenweider, co-head of the Firm’s M&A and Capital Markets Practice.
“Paul’s experience is an excellent complement to our thriving private equity practice in London,” added Jeff Eldredge, International Coordinator for the firm’s Europe, Middle East and Africa practice. “His strong relationships with many of our existing clients and outstanding transactional skills will allow him to make an immediate impact.”
Dunbar acts on behalf of private equity and special situations funds, as well as activist and event driven funds and corporate clients, on M&A and special situations transactions, including public and private M&A, corporate governance, joint ventures, minority equity and debt investments, loan-to-own restructurings and portfolio acquisitions. He also advises fund clients on certain regulatory matters.
“With so many clients in common, I’ve had the opportunity to get to know many of the exemplary lawyers at V&E, so the decision to join the firm made perfect sense for my practice,” Dunbar said. “I’m extremely excited to help grow this vibrant private equity practice, both in the UK and globally.”
Dunbar graduated from Oxford University and is admitted to the roll of solicitors of England and Wales.
“We are very pleased to welcome Paul to V&E at a time when the focus on London has never been stronger,” said London office managing partner Alex Msimang. “From moving into our brand new office space earlier this week to enhancing our corporate group capabilities, we look forward to building on this momentum.”
The firm’s London office was opened in 1971 and relocated to new offices on 8 February 2016 at 20 Fenchurch Street, widely known as the “Walkie Talkie” building because of its distinctive shape.
V&E’s Private Equity group advises sophisticated private equity funds in their most complex transactions, leveraging the firm’s global footprint across major financial centers to execute its clients’ most important deals. The firm’s broad private equity client base consists of many of the world’s leading private equity funds, including buyout, growth, debt/special situations and venture capital funds.
