Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, announced that Donna L. Wilson has joined the firm’s Los Angeles office as a partner in the Litigation Division. She joins from BuckleySandler LLP, where she led its West Coast litigation and privacy/data security practices.
Wilson has significant experience successfully bringing and defending high-dollar, big-stakes cases on behalf of clients in highly regulated industries and activities, and she provides sophisticated counsel on legal strategies and their practical business impacts. Her practice is focused on consumer class and individual actions and counseling, with an emphasis on financial services, data security and privacy matters, as well as government enforcement actions and other complex business litigation.
“Donna’s superior talents and vigor in the courtroom are recognized not just in California but across the nation,” said Matt Kanny, chair of Manatt’s Litigation Division. “Her abilities add immediate value to clients and enhance our considerable trial practice on both coasts. Donna is an important addition, and we are thrilled to have her at Manatt.”
Wilson represents clients against alleged violations of a number of consumer protection laws, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Telephone Consumer Protection Act and Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. She also provides guidance on ways to enhance existing data security and privacy compliance programs.
“Donna, with her impressive track record of successes both as a litigator and a leader, strengthens our outstanding national litigation team,” said William T. Quicksilver, Manatt’s chief executive officer and managing partner. “Donna’s expertise in data security and privacy enhances our service offering in, and will further accelerate the growth of, our national healthcare, digital media, financial services and consumer brands businesses.”
Wilson said, “Manatt’s nationwide reputation for outstanding litigation counsel and its well-considered and creative vision for growth made an immediate impression on me, opening the door to new and exciting business opportunities. I also found compelling Manatt’s business and client service strategy, which recognizes the increasing convergence of industries such as digital media, advertising, financial services, and healthcare and the effects of technology on the business and legal needs of the firm’s clients.
Manatt’s litigation practice combines aggressive, creative litigation talent with a deep knowledge of industries and practice areas, including advertising, healthcare, entertainment, consumer brands, energy, financial services, intellectual property and real estate. The firm’s litigators include some of the top trial and appellate lawyers in the country. Manatt has been recognized for excellence in litigation by The American Lawyer and Chambers USA, and appears on U.S. News & World Report’s list of “Best Law Firms” for litigation.
Highly regarded for her work, Wilson was recognized in 2013 by The Daily Journal as one of the top 75 women litigators in California, and The Legal 500 repeatedly has recognized her as a leading data security and privacy practitioner.
Wilson earned a B.A. from George Washington University and a J.D. from University of Virginia (Order of the Coif), where she served as editor of the Virginia Law Review.
