Jenner & Block LLP is pleased to announce that veteran corporate attorney G. Thomas Stromberg has joined the firm as a partner in its Los Angeles office. Mr. Stromberg possesses deep knowledge of the California marketplace, with 25 years of transactional experience there, in addition to extensive cross-border know-how.
“Tom’s understanding of the California corporate market is second to none,” said Susan C. Levy, Jenner & Block’s managing partner. “The breadth and depth of his practice provide another gateway into international markets, further enhancing the capabilities of our Los Angeles office in particular and our corporate practice more broadly. We are excited to have Tom join the firm.”
At Jenner & Block, the core of Mr. Stromberg’s practice will involve representing managed money that is invested in the acquisition and financing of private companies. Building on his substantial existing practice, he will pursue transactional deals that require sophisticated counsel in a variety of industries ranging from life sciences, energy and environmental technology, manufacturing and business services to agribusiness and information technology. Having advised on the full panoply of corporate transactions, Mr. Stromberg has built numerous relationships with general counsel that will benefit not only the firm’s transactional practices but also its internationally recognized Litigation Department in related areas such as intellectual property, privacy, private equity and hedge funds.
“The firm is strongly committed to growing our corporate capabilities and expanding our reach in the international marketplace, and the addition of Tom to our group underscores that commitment,” said Joseph P. Gromacki, chair of Jenner & Block’s firmwide Corporate Practice. “His talents across a spectrum of transactional disciplines will make him a key asset to our clients.”
Mr. Stromberg has rich insight into overseas markets such as Japan—he has previously practiced in Tokyo, is fluent in Japanese and brings a valuable understanding of the Japanese business culture. He has completed numerous cross-border transactions in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia, including Russia, China, Japan, Hong Kong and India. In addition, over his three-decade career, Mr. Stromberg has been a trailblazer in establishing new markets. He helped open the Los Angeles office for Mayer Brown and the Palo Alto office for Kaye Scholer.
Mr. Stromberg comes to Jenner & Block after serving as co-managing partner of Kaye Scholer’s California offices in Los Angeles and Palo Alto. He was also a member of Kaye Scholer’s Executive Committee.
“Tom’s arrival will significantly boost the firm’s transactional presence on the West Coast and across the Pacific,” said Rick Richmond, managing partner of the firm’s Los Angeles office of nearly 40 attorneys. “He will further solidify our place in the Los Angeles market.”
Mr. Stromberg’s addition marks the firm’s second significant addition among its transactional ranks this fall. In October, the firm hired mergers and acquisitions and private equity practitioner Uri Doron as a partner in its New York office. Mr. Doron’s practice in recent years has focused on cross-border M&A transactions for European companies, particularly those based in the Nordic region. Similar to Mr. Doron, Mr. Stromberg has established close-knit relationships with overseas law firms.
Mr. Stromberg said of his arrival: “Up and down the line, the talent of Jenner & Block’s attorneys is unrivaled. I am thrilled by the opportunity to work with such a great transactional team and some of the best litigators anywhere—and to do so within a culture that so values inclusiveness, diversity and a commitment to pro bono. I am eager to help the firm take a big step forward in expanding our transactional presence.”
Mr. Stromberg graduated with honors with a B.A. from Harvard College in 1979. He went on to earn a J.D. from the University of Utah in 1982.
