Nixon Peabody LLP Expands West Coast Intellectual Property Practice; New Partner Seth Levy and Three Associates Join Los Angeles Office

Los Angeles, CA. International law firm Nixon Peabody LLP announces the arrival of intellectual property partner Seth D. Levy. Based in Los Angeles, his arrival adds depth to the firm’s already strong national intellectual property platform.

Mr. Levy was previously chair of Davis Wright Tremaine’s Life Sciences practice in Los Angeles. He is joined by associates Linda Huber, Sean Senn, and B. Thomas Duke, Ph.D.; patent agents Stephen Chen and Hema Vakharia-Rao, Ph.D.; and patent scientist BinQuan Zhuang, Ph.D.
A patent attorney with a background in biological engineering, Mr. Levy focuses his practice on managing patent procurement in a variety of technical fields, including biotechnology and life sciences. He represents academic institutions in licensing intellectual property to the private sector and in structuring sponsored research agreements, material transfer agreements, and inter-institutional agreements with nonprofit and for-profit collaborators. Mr. Levy also counsels emerging companies focused on intellectual property licensing and acquisitions and often serves as outside general counsel for early-stage technology companies.
“Seth represents some of Southern California’s largest academic institutions and health care facilities,” said Richard Jones, managing partner of Nixon Peabody’s Los Angeles office. “This is a significant addition for our Los Angeles office and for our firm, as we now have intellectual property capabilities in Southern California that nicely complement our already strong national intellectual property platform.”
“Seth’s addition adds to our existing strength in biotech and life sciences patents on the East Coast to create a truly national presence in this area,” added Ronald Eisenstein, co-leader of Nixon Peabody’s Patents practice.
Mr. Levy is also active in the community, serving on the boards of various organizations, including the It Gets Better Project. He has also held numerous leadership positions in the ABA (Young Lawyers Division) and American Health Lawyers Association (vice chair and chair of the Life Sciences Practice Group). Mr. Levy graduated from University of Southern California Law School and received his B.S., cum laude, from Cornell University.
