International law firm Nixon Peabody LLP announces the arrival of Health Services partner Jill H. Gordon, who previously served as vice chair of Davis Wright Tremaine’s Health Law practice. Ms. Gordon’s health care practice complements Nixon Peabody’s existing Health Services practice and builds on its West Coast Life Sciences practice.
Ms. Gordon primarily represents hospitals, long-term care facilities, medical groups, accountable care organizations, and other entities affiliated with the health care industry. She counsels clients on transactional and regulatory matters, including forming and operating joint ventures and other alliances, including health information exchanges, co-management, and bundled payment arrangements; structuring mergers and acquisitions; entity formation and financing; and negotiating agreements such as physician contracts, leases, management arrangements, and managed care contracts. In addition, Ms. Gordon advises clients on physician self-referral (Stark Law), anti-kickback, gainsharing, licensing and certification, and other health care compliance matters.
“Economic uncertainty, regulatory compliance pressure, and heightened competition are critical issues facing today’s health care industry,” said Michele A. Masucci, partner and leader of Nixon Peabody’s Health Services practice. “Jill’s experience in transactional and regulatory matters is an excellent fit with the legal needs of our clients firmwide.”
“Health care is an important area of opportunity for our firm and our LA office,” added Richard M. Jones, managing partner of Nixon Peabody’s Los Angeles office. “We are excited about the addition of Jill’s practice and energy level to our excellent existing Los Angeles team of professionals. Jill expands our Health Services practice to the West Coast, and her presence will give us additional capabilities in some of our other practice areas as well, including our Life Sciences practice.” Nixon Peabody recently added a team of four intellectual property attorneys who primarily represent academic medical centers and research institutions, including partner Seth Levy, to its Los Angeles office.
Beyond her law practice, Ms. Gordon is past president of the Health Law Committee of the Business Section of the California Bar Association, a long-time member of the Executive Committee of the Health Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, former board member of the Women’s Lawyer Association of Los Angeles, and is a current board member of the Learning Rights Law Center. Ms. Gordon graduated from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. She earned a MHA in health administration from Washington University School of Medicine and she received her undergraduate degree from Sarah Lawrence College.
