Nossaman Adds IP Partner Thomas Dover

Nossaman LLP adds intellectual property attorney Thomas Dover to the firm’s Los Angeles office as a partner. Dover will serve as co-chair of Nossaman’s newly formalized Intellectual Property & Media Practice Group, along with Partner Stephen P. Wiman.

“We’re excited that Thomas decided to join Nossaman and help guide our IP & Media practice. The skills and services offered by the group have long existed within the firm. Thomas coming to Nossaman has prompted us to centralize our knowledge, come together to proactively identify and address emerging issues in this fast-paced specialty area, and focus on the delivery of these critical business and legal services to our clients,” said Nossaman Managing Partner Michael Heumann.

Nossaman’s IP & Media Practice Group focuses on industries such as healthcare, entertainment and media, consumer products, technology and video gaming. The group provides a broad range of trademark, copyright, trade secret, right of publicity and patent related legal services, including licensing, portfolio and business strategy, prosecution and litigation.

“This practice group, which functions like a highly specialized boutique firm, is unique in the depth of services offered and the understanding of the IP implications for client businesses, particularly within our industries of focus,” stated Mr. Dover.

Mr. Dover provides cutting-edge legal counsel focused on intellectual property, corporate transactions, advertising and entertainment law. He represents entertainment production and distribution companies, consumer brands, Internet/digital platform distributors and video gaming/content developers on both transactional and litigation matters. Mr. Dover’s entertainment work also includes representing and managing talent, as well as negotiating high-value endorsement and licensing transactions for a variety of entertainment, video gaming and retail businesses.

Mr. Dover has extensive experience with new technologies and was among the first attorneys to pioneer the direct licensing and distribution of music and entertainment content via the Internet and mobile platforms. He provides licensing representation and IP protection, both in the U.S. and internationally, assisting with more than 100 “new media” licenses, 250 entertainment brand licenses and 1,500 advertising agreements throughout his career.

An adjunct professor at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law, Mr. Dover also presents on IP-related topics at a range of industry conferences and events. He earned his LL.M. (2006) in a pioneering program for media and entertainment law, as well as his J.D. (1993) from Southwestern University School of Law. He received his B.A. (1989) from the University of Minnesota.
