Akerman Strengthens Nationwide Corporate Tax Practice with Partner Heather Preston

Akerman today announced the joint expansion of its corporate tax and energy tax credit capabilities with partner Heather Preston, who joins from Kilpatrick Townsend.  Preston will be resident in Akerman’s Los Angeles office.

Preston focuses her practice on transactional, tax credit and business tax matters. She has significant experience in tax matters associated with mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, restructurings, investment fund formation, qualified opportunity funds, cross-border transactions, partnerships and joint ventures, and REITs.

Preston also has significant experience in tax credit equity transactions for renewable energy projects and regularly advises clients in connection with the qualification for various renewable energy related credits. In addition, she advises clients and companies in connection with their equity incentive plans.

“Heather is a skilled lawyer who brings considerable knowledge in federal tax matters involving joint ventures, fund formation, and mergers and acquisitions,” said David Blum, co-chair of Akerman’s Tax Practice Group. “Her experience with tax credits and incentives also adds depth to our growing energy and infrastructure sector team, particularly in the wake of the Inflation Reduction Act.”

Her addition to the Tax Practice Group follows that of Anne Levin-Nussbaum, who focuses her practice on transactions involving renewable energy projects, including energy tax credits, depreciation, and other tax incentives for clean energy transition and alternative energy production.
