Dinsmore & Shohl LLP is pleased to welcome partner Lovee Sarenas to its Los Angeles office and national bankruptcy and restructuring practice group. Prior to joining the firm, Sarenas was a partner at Sklar Kirsh LLP in Los Angeles.
Sarenas brings decades of experience in bankruptcy law and has practiced at both a large national firm and small corporate firms. She works with institutional banks, insurance companies, airlines, storage facilities, commercial landlords, small businesses, and turnaround professionals as well as committees of unsecured creditors and trustees in Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 cases. Sarenas has successfully represented clients in various industries and sizes.
“California’s economy has been transformed by small businesses, which are the main drivers of the state’s economy. Our state leads in Subchapter V filings across the country,” she said. “Having Dinsmore’s nationwide platform and resources and recognizing the importance of cultural competence in dealing with many small businesses, I am able to provide effective and results-oriented counsel to my clients.”
Sarenas chose to join Dinsmore because the firm’s national bankruptcy and restructuring practice fits with the scope of her work.
“Dinsmore is a great fit because it complements my broad experience across all aspects of bankruptcy law,” she said. “With the caliber of professionals at Dinsmore, particularly of its bankruptcy group that is strategically placed across the country, I am delighted to have the opportunity to work confidently alongside such a capable, highly experienced and collegial group of attorneys.”
Dinsmore Los Angeles Office Managing Partner Peter Mastan, who is also a bankruptcy trustee, sees great value in Sarenas’ addition to the firm.
“I’m so proud that Lovee chose Dinsmore,” he said. “Lovee is well known and active in the Los Angeles insolvency community and highly respected by our attorney peers and judges. Her versatility, being able to provide debtor, creditor, or trustee side services, is a real value add to our bankruptcy and restructuring department on a national basis and fits well with the diverse nature of Dinsmore’s client base.”
In addition to private law practice, Sarenas is a member of the adjunct faculty at University of Southern California Gould School of Law and Southwestern Law School, and she has extensive experience as a judicial law clerk in United States Bankruptcy Courts. She currently serves on the board and executive committee of the Los Angeles Bankruptcy Forum, where she co-chairs the diversity, equity and inclusion committee.
