Morgan Lewis today welcomes Michelle McCarthy, who has worked extensively with multiemployer and single employer pension and welfare plans, as a partner resident in Los Angeles. She arrives from a large national law firm.
Michelle’s background includes a major focus on Taft-Hartley matters, including representing some of the entertainment industry’s largest benefits trust funds structured under federal law. She also designs, drafts, and advises on all types of health and welfare and qualified employee retirement plans and assists on executive compensation issues.
“With her multifaceted employee benefits and compensation experience, Michelle is well positioned to advise a wide variety of clients on the West Coast and across the United States on their pension and welfare plans,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “Having her resident in Los Angeles will enhance the dynamic synergies being created by our growing presence in Southern California.”
Michelle’s service to clients includes working on federal and state taxation issues pertaining to both individuals and entities, and she represents them in Internal Revenue Service and US Department of Labor audits, corrective programs, and determination requests. She also will support and collaborate with a recently arrived labor and employment team in Los Angeles, further strengthening Morgan Lewis’s services to employers.
“I am delighted that Michelle has joined our team and she will be a great asset to our clients, including those in the entertainment and other industries on the West Coast,” said Craig Bitman, leader of Morgan Lewis’s employee benefits and executive compensation practice. “She also will help us broaden and expand our highly regarded Taft-Hartley practice, which represents more than 50 trust funds in a variety of industries on fund administration and before courts and regulatory agencies.”
