Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that Rishi Sodhi has joined the firm’s Los Angeles office as a partner in its Taxation Practice Group, bolstering its transactional tax capabilities for a broad range of transactions. Sodhi is the latest in a string of laterals to join the firm in California and builds upon Foley’s ongoing commitment to growth and expansion on the West Coast. Sodhi arrives from DLA Piper.
Sodhi is a transactional tax attorney whose practice focuses on advising clients on the tax aspects of a wide range of business transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, reorganizations, and strategic investments. He represents private equity funds and public multinational corporations on numerous complex domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, serving as the deal lead on all tax-related matters.
“As Foley’s transactions work continues to grow, adding to our transactional tax depth is a major priority for our department,” said Timothy Voigtman, chair of the firm’s Taxation Practice Group. “Rishi’s significant background in providing M&A tax advice amplifies our team’s capabilities, and his deep understanding of the tax aspects underpinning complex business transactions will deliver positive results for our clients.”
As a well-known and respected lawyer in the tax insurance space, Sodhi has worked with some of the world’s leading insurance companies and managing general underwriters assisting in the assessment and underwriting of hundreds of tax risks with collective policy limits in the billions of dollars.
“Rishi is an esteemed tax lawyer and a strong cultural fit for our office,” said Jeff Atkin, managing partner of the firm’s Los Angeles office. “Rishi joins Raj Tanden as our resident tax partners in Los Angeles. His addition expands Foley’s tax practice on the West Coast and reflects the firm’s continued commitment to recruiting highly-skilled lawyers who provide our clients with best-in-class service. We are delighted to welcome Rishi to the team.”
“Foley’s Taxation Practice Group is known for providing sophisticated and creative tax advice to its clients. I am eager to join these efforts, collaborate with my new colleagues, and continue to help shape and build the firm’s already strong tax practice and capabilities,” said Sodhi.
