Goldberg Segalla continues to develop its national presence with the addition of four new attorneys to its Los Angeles and Orange County offices.
Partner Albert A. Alikin was added to the firm’s Global Insurance Services, Corporate Services and Commercial Litigation, General Liability, Management and Professional Liability, and Appellate Practice Groups in Los Angeles.
Al is a highly experienced litigator who focuses his practice on defending bad faith claims and handling complex insurance coverage disputes involving E&O, D&O, fidelity, EPLI, automobile/UIM, property, cyber, and CGL policies. He has prevailed in trial and appellate courts throughout California and across the nation, and has represented a wide variety of clients such as insurance brokers, agents, and third-party administrators in professional liability actions. Al’s extensive coverage experience spans many industries including banking and financial services, commercial and residential real estate, construction, home and auto, education, energy, entertainment and film, government, health care, hospitality, manufacturing, and special events. Additionally, he has substantial experience litigating toxic tort, general liability, and breach of contract actions. Prior to attending Loyola Law School, where he was the recipient of the American Jurisprudence and First Honors Award as well as the Lim Ruger and Kim Scholarship Award, Al earned his bachelor’s in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego. While at Loyola, he served as president of the Business Law Society, and was also an editor for the Loyola International and Comparative Law Review.
Partner Peter J. Woo was added to the firm’s Employment and Labor, Management and Professional Liability, Corporate Services and Commercial Litigation, and Global Insurance Services Practice Groups in Los Angeles and Orange County.
Peter is a highly experienced civil litigator with a focus on complex labor and employment matters, and is the vice chair of the firm’s Employment and Labor Practice Group. He defends high-level executives and employers against claims including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and wage and hour matters (individual, class action, and representative matters) in state, federal, arbitration, and administrative venues, and provides preventive and risk management counsel on hiring practices, terminations, workplace investigations, and crafting employee policies. He regularly defends against various claims made under the Americans with Disabilities Act and equivalent state-based claims involving public accommodations. In addition, Peter handles insurance coverage matters, particularly providing advisory opinions on complex claims issues on professional lines of insurance, and serves as a trusted counselor to clients across a wide array of business lines.
Partner Stephen C. Mazzara was added to the firm’s Employment and Labor Practice Group in Los Angeles.
Stephen defends and counsels employers and executives in employment labor and professional liability matters. His practice encompasses all aspects of employment law, with a particular focus on discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, and retaliation claims. He also defends unpaid wage claims arising from minimum wage, overtime, and meal/rest period claims. With a track record of favorable outcomes in trials, binding arbitrations, and appeals, Stephen also meets with clients to assess pre-litigation strategy including preventive counseling, evaluating employee handbooks and policies, and analyzing hiring and termination decisions in an effort to minimize the potential risk of litigation. Stephen also devotes a significant portion of his practice to professional liability matters, and has successfully defended clients including insurance agents, real estate agents, elder care facilities, public, nonprofit and private entities, owners’ representatives, and attorneys against claims involving breach of contract, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, negligence, and legal malpractice.
Associate Victor T. Xu was added to the firm’s Employment and Labor Practice Group in Orange County.
Victor defends a variety of employers in all aspects of litigation, from inception through trial, in state and federal courts throughout California, and counsels clients operating in California on the full spectrum of labor- and employment-related issues unique to the state. He additionally has significant experience handling commercial litigation and professional liability matters. Victor has represented employers throughout the California in class action wage and hour, harassment, and wrongful termination litigation. His corporate and commercial litigation experience includes drafting, reviewing, and revising commercial real estate lease agreements, vendor contracts, and shareholder agreements. While earning his bachelor’s at the University of California, Irvine, Victor studied abroad at the University of Cambridge and the Université de Bordeaux. He went on to study at Boston University School of Law, where he earned his J.D., graduating cum laude.
