McGuireWoods Adds Partner Remy Kessler to Labor & Employment Team in California

Remy Kessler has joined McGuireWoods’ Labor & Employment Department as a partner in Century City. He brings more than three decades of experience representing employers in high-stakes matters and strengthens the firm’s capabilities on the West Coast and nationally, particularly in the retail sector. Kessler comes to McGuireWoods from Reed Smith in Los Angeles.

Kessler advises clients in wage-and-hour disputes and claims involving wrongful termination, discrimination, sexual harassment, civil rights and employment torts. He handles matters in federal and state courts and before administrative bodies and has successfully defended a major retailer in numerous class actions.

“Remy has a long track record of success guiding employers — especially retail clients — through complex and potentially costly litigation,” said Bruce Steen, chair of the firm’s Labor & Employment Department.

McGuireWoods is one of two law firms selected to participate in the recently formed Retail Litigation Center Defense Division, a new initiative to help corporate counsel at the nation’s largest retailers take proactive steps to defend their companies against class action litigation. The division is a sister organization of the Retail Industry Leaders Association.

“We are delighted to welcome Remy to McGuireWoods,” said Richard Grant, managing partner of the firm’s Century City office. “His experience and insight will have immense benefits for our clients.”

McGuireWoods’ labor and employment lawyers advise local, national and multinational employers — including small businesses, government entities and Fortune 500 companies — on compliance with state, federal and international law; internal investigations; federal contracting; and executive compensation. The firm earned national Tier 1 rankings for employment law and labor and employment litigation in the 2019 edition of U.S. News-Best Lawyers’ “Best Law Firms.”

“McGuireWoods has a national reputation for excellence in labor and employment matters and class action litigation,” Kessler said. “I am excited to be part of this talented team and look forward to putting my experience to work for clients.”
