Los Angeles, CA. Nixon Peabody is expanding its Labor and Employment practice with the arrival of partner Benjamin Kim, who joins the firm’s Los Angeles office. Ben joins Nixon Peabody from Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis, LLP.
Ben represents employers on a wide range of employment and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) matters. Those include OSHA compliance and defense of alleged OSHA violations, particularly those involving fatalities and serious injuries, as well as litigating cases in both federal and California state courts for alleged wage and hour, employment discrimination, workplace harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and disability accommodation violations.
“I’m looking forward to joining a strong team of attorneys at an innovative and forward-thinking law firm,” said Ben. “The firm’s national and global resources give clients a cutting-edge advantage in meeting their legal goals around the world.”
“Given the thousands of safety and health regulations that must be followed, compliance can be a complex task for employers,” said Jeff Tanenbaum, who leads Nixon Peabody’s OSHA practice. “Ben further enhances our California employment practice, and he is particularly well-known for his OSHA work and brings added depth and experience to our OSHA team. This will be very beneficial to our clients as we collaborate with them on OSHA compliance, emergency response, agency inspections and citation-related litigation.”
Ben has extensive experience working with various state and federal agencies. Among them, he has counseled clients on matters involving the California Department of Industrial Relations (including the Division of Occupational Safety and Health and the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement), the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the U.S. Department of Labor (including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Mine Safety and Health Administration).
“Ben is thoughtful, enthusiastic, and collaborative. He’s a great fit for our growing office,” said Justin Thompson, managing partner of Nixon Peabody’s Los Angeles office. “I look forward to introducing Ben to our clients in the Los Angeles area and beyond.”
A member of the Orange County Executive Advisory Council of Asian Americans Advancing Justice, Ben is also an advisory member of the Asian Rehabilitation Service, and serves as a board member of the Berkeley Korean-American Alumni Association. He earned his JD from the University of California Berkeley School of Law at Boalt Hall, and received his BA from the University of Arizona.
