Nixon Peabody West Coast Team Adds Entertainment Partner Carron Joan Mitchell

Global law firm Nixon Peabody continues to expand its Entertainment team with the addition of Carron Joan Mitchell, who joins as a partner in the firm’s Los Angeles office. Mitchell comes to the firm from Hertz Lichtenstein Young & Polk LLP.

Carron is a star attorney with the unique ability to identify and develop talent and has extensive experience representing clients across the entertainment industry, focusing on recording artists, music producers, and songwriters. She previously worked at Nixon Peabody from 2016 to 2018.

“We are thrilled to welcome Carron back to Nixon Peabody,” said Sonia Nayak, Nixon Peabody’s Los Angeles office managing partner. “Carron leverages her unique understanding of the entertainment industry to bridge the gap between the creative and business needs of her clients. She steadfastly protects their interests to build lasting careers, brands, and legacies. Carron is also a great collaborator, and I look forward to seeing her team up with attorneys across our deep bench of cross-practice talent. Carron will undoubtedly make a positive impact on our clients’ businesses and the greater Los Angeles community.”

Drawing from her prior experience within the music, media, and radio industries, Carron has an insider’s perspective on the diverse legal needs of entertainment professionals. Her practice focuses on structuring, developing, and launching new business enterprises, including advising on trademark matters and music publishing and administration requirements (e.g., drafting and negotiating master and mechanical licenses); clearing synchronization requests and issuing licenses for television, film, commercials, and video games; and negotiating various types of agreements that include music recording, music publishing, touring, merchandising, sponsorship and endorsements, talent and production, television, modeling, talent representation, content creation, and content monetization.

“From artists to producers, executives, or indie record labels, professionals in today’s entertainment industry face complex and ever-evolving challenges,” said Ellie L. Heisler, leader of Nixon Peabody’s Entertainment team. “Not only does Carron have a unique background representing clients whose careers cross over the music, film and TV, and digital content creation spaces, she has a strong pulse on what’s next in terms of developing innovative additional revenue streams and ways for clients to monetize their art. Carron will be a valuable asset to our clients across the entertainment spectrum, adding to our team’s 360-degree representation.”

Carron advises recording artists across diverse genres, including musicians like Ari Lennox, Cuco, Brent Faiyaz, Freddie Gibbs, Vince Staples, Masego, EarthGang, Raveena, Earl Sweatshirt, and newcomers Tanna Leone and Fana Hues.

Carron earned her JD from the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University and a BA from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a member of the Recording Academy and was named one of Billboard’s 2021 Top Music Lawyers. Carron also serves as an active member of the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association (BESLA) and the John M. Langston Bar Association.
