Los Angeles, CA. Nixon Peabody continues to expand its burgeoning West Coast intellectual property practice with the arrival of two patent litigation partners.
Based in Nixon Peabody’s Los Angeles office, Vincent Yip and Peter Wied work with a number of technology companies to efficiently and cost-effectively resolve their patent litigation disputes. They have successfully handled matters for both international (primarily Taiwanese) and U.S.–based technology clients before U.S. district courts, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. Vincent and Peter represent clients in a variety of different technology areas, including computer, liquid crystal display, semiconductor and software companies, in all aspects of patent litigation and innovation counseling.
“We continue to see a large number of emerging companies in the high-tech sector,” said Jason Kravitz, head of Nixon Peabody’s IP Litigation practice group. “At the same time, the laws that govern IP continue to evolve. Peter’s and Vincent’s familiarity and track record with litigation for Asian technology clients, especially Taiwanese companies, will be a tremendous benefit to our clients and is a natural fit with our existing Asia practice.”
“Here in Los Angeles, most of our litigators focus at least a meaningful part of their practices on IP and related litigation—patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets and the related art, cyber and employment issues that closely complement and often overlap with these areas of law,” added Seth Levy, managing partner of the firm’s Los Angeles office. “Vincent’s and Peter’s practices are a nice complement to our LA office and litigation practice.”
Beyond litigation, Vincent has negotiated and drafted numerous patent licenses and advised technology clients in connection with the purchase or transfer of patent rights, and on strategies for successful patent portfolio management. Vincent speaks fluent Mandarin. He received his law degree from University of California, Hastings College of Law, and his master’s degree from University of California, Los Angeles, and his undergraduate degree from the University of Hawaii.
Peter counsels his clients on strategic portfolio management and maintenance and has represented several clients during United States Patent and Trademark Office reexamination proceedings. He graduated from Harvard Law School and received his undergraduate degree in physics from Brown University.
Also joining Nixon Peabody’s Los Angeles office is associate Ryan Duckett, whose practice focuses on representing high-profile individuals and major corporations in all phases of litigation, with a focus on intellectual property matters including copyright, trademark, licensing, publicity, trade secret and patent matters. Ryan will be part of the firm’s Commercial Litigation group. He received his law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law in Chapel Hill and his undergraduate degree from Cornell University.
