Sidley is pleased to announce that Nima Mohebbi has joined the firm as a partner in the Commercial Litigation and Disputes practice in Greater Los Angeles. Prior to joining Sidley, he was a partner at Latham & Watkins in Los Angeles.
Mr. Mohebbi is a widely recognized trial lawyer who focuses on bet-the-company litigation, including the prosecution and defense of large-scale disputes involving billions of dollars in controversy. He has successfully represented clients in several highly publicized matters, including jury trials and appeals, with a particular emphasis in the entertainment/sports/media and technology spaces. His cutting-edge practice assists clients in navigating the increasingly complex and growing intersection between entertainment content development and technology, including in gaming, blockchain and digital assets, and artificial intelligence.
In 2023, California’s Daily Journal selected Mr. Mohebbi to its prestigious 40 Under 40 list celebrating his impact in the litigation field and his pioneering entertainment and legal-tech work. Examples of Mr. Mohebbi’s significant matters include his successful representation of Chess.com and others in an internationally covered defamation and antitrust suit regarding cheating allegations brought by a chess grandmaster; representing the band The Chainsmokers in a novel Web3 transaction; and representing several high-profile entertainers, including a prominent athlete on AI issues.
“We are thrilled that Nima is joining Sidley. He has significant trial experience and a number of high-profile wins for his client. He joins several other recent Sidley lateral hires who have national litigation practices and extensive trial experience,” said Angela Zambrano, global co-leader of Sidley’s Litigation practice and Executive committee member. “His proficiency in disputes related to the digital economy, including artificial intelligence, data, digital assets, and online platforms will be helpful in serving the needs of our clients in the technology, entertainment, fintech, sports, and digital media sectors.”
“We are excited to welcome Nima to our team in Greater Los Angeles as we continue to invest in top talent in the region,” said Dan Clivner, a member of Sidley’s Executive Committee and managing partner of the firm’s Greater Los Angeles offices. “Nima is the rare litigator who focuses on building lasting relationships, including with many clients in Los Angeles and existing Sidley clients.”
Mr. Mohebbi strengthens the Commercial Litigation and Disputes team in Los Angeles on the heels of Jon Dean having joined the team in August. Peter Burke, a Global Finance partner in Century City, and Jon Olsen, a partner in the M&A and Emerging Companies and Venture Capital practices in San Diego, also joined Sidley this year as the firm grows its presence in Southern California.
