Dechert LLP announced today that Olivier Gaston-Braud has joined the firm’s global tax practice as a partner in Luxembourg. Gaston-Braud joins the firm from Eversheds Sutherland in Luxembourg.
Mr. Gaston-Braud has a deep knowledge of tax with more than 15 years’ experience advising international funds, investment firms and banks in the structuring of real estate investments and investment funds as well as in tax matters related to fund formation, private equity, debt funds, and corporate matters. Mr. Gaston-Braud assists clients in their investments throughout Europe.
Joshua Milgrim, chair of Dechert’s global tax group, said, “Olivier’s broad and deep capability, combined with his pan-European tax expertise, is an excellent fit with our client base and will help us to meet growing client demand for our services.”
Marc Seimetz, managing partner of Dechert’s Luxembourg office added, “Luxembourg is an extremely important market for our investment fund clients and the strategic appointment of Olivier will strengthen our Luxembourg-based offering and the ability to support our global clients in their investment fund structuring and most sophisticated domestic and cross-border transactions, especially with the increasing complexity due to the recent European tax developments.”
Mr. Gaston-Braud’s addition to the team follows the broader expansion of Dechert’s capacities in Luxembourg with the recent appointment of national partner Arne Bolch, whose practice focuses on fund formation, fund-related M&A transactions, general investment fund advice and regulatory law matters, and the promotion to partner of Laura Rossi, who advises clients on the regulatory, organisational, corporate and contractual aspects of creating, structuring, marketing and registering investment funds and investment companies, as well as on financings.
“Dechert’s strong client base and global platform provides an excellent opportunity to support clients with their most complex and varied tax planning strategies. I am delighted to be joining Dechert’s global tax practice,” said Mr. Gaston-Braud.
Dechert’s global tax practice, comprising lawyers in the United States and Europe, provides comprehensive tax solutions that meet the challenges and objectives of clients’ most sophisticated business dealings around the globe, from corporate transactions and restructurings to financial transactions and fund formation and investing. The team has been recognised in the Financial Times North American Innovative Lawyers Awards 2019 for devising a first-of-its-kind tax structure for Fannie Mae’s credit-risk transfer securities program, and in International Tax Review Americas Tax Awards 2019 for the firm’s work on a Blackstone-led consortium partnership agreement with Thomson Reuters. Dechert’s tax team was also honored in Latin Lawyer’s Deals of the Year Awards 2019 when a Dechert matter – Brazilian payments processor PagSeguro’s US$2.6 billion U.S. initial public offering – was named “Capital Markets Deal of the Year.” Dechert served as special tax adviser to PagSeguro.
