Allen & Overy is pleased to announce the addition of new partner in Spain, Adolfo Zunzunegui, who will lead and direct the tax law practice in Madrid.
With almost 20 years of experience in the field, Mr. Zunzunegui joins Allen & Overy from Ernst & Young, where he was a partner, responsible for the firm’s legal and tax department in Spain. Previously, he worked with Garrigues and Freshfields.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Zunzunegui has advised numerous financial entities in a consulting capacity on asset financing processes and structured finance. Similarly, he has specialised in international tax structuring and has participated in complex and innovative M&A transactions.
He is a recognised expert in the field of debt structure product design, and has a wide experience of derivatives. Furthermore, over the last year he has advised on some of the Spanish market’s most significant transactions, such as Bankinter’s integration of Barclay’s Portuguese business; on the sale of a Spanish investor’s holding in the Sura Group; and the refinancing of Pascual.
Mr. Zunzunegui is considered one of the leading lawyers specialising in tax law in Spain, according to both Chambers & Partners and Legal 500.

The appointment of Adolfo as partner follows that of Fernando Torrente, who recently joined to lead A&O’s commercial and capital markets practice in Spain. A&O now have 13 partners and a total of 140 people across Madrid and Barcelona.
