Latham & Watkins Adds Further Heft to Transactional Capability in Madrid

Latham & Watkins LLP is pleased to announce that Rafael Molina has joined the Madrid office as a partner in the Real Estate Practice. Molina specializes in high-end real estate transactions, restructurings, and distressed transactions for private equity and international investment funds, often with a focus on real estate as an asset class, and related big-ticket finance work.

Molina joins the firm with highly regarded corporate counsel Luis Manuel Lozano. Lozano’s practice focuses on advising companies, financial institutions, and private equity firms on a variety of complex M&A, joint ventures, equity and debt capital markets, finance, restructuring, and distressed transactions, with particular expertise in the infrastructure, energy, and financial services sectors.

“We are delighted to welcome Rafael to the firm,” said Juan Picon, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in Madrid. “His arrival represents a significant step forward in the build-out of our transactional capability in Spain. He is widely seen as one of the country’s most prominent lawyers for high-end real estate transactions and he is highly respected in the tight-knit banking, finance, and investment fund community. Rafael’s distinguished reputation is a testament to his work on some of Europe’s most sophisticated transactions, often with underlying real estate assets, over the last two decades. We are also thrilled to have Luis Manuel Lozano — one of the very top talents in the market — join the team.”

“Rafael is one of the foremost transactional lawyers in Spain. His practice strongly complements our real estate finance practice in London and the U.S. and other practice areas such as funds, restructuring, and litigation” added Jeremy Trinder, Global Co-Chair of Latham & Watkins’ Real Estate Practice. “He is entrepreneurial, with extensive technical knowledge and a lengthy track record of acting for major fund investors in the Spanish real estate market, across a range of asset classes, that will be of tremendous value to our clients.”

“Luis brings lots of expertise to our growing team and his work across the full spectrum of corporate and private equity transactions is impressive,” said Jose Antonio Sánchez Dafos, Local Department Chair of the Corporate Department in Madrid. “Adding Rafael and Luis to the practice is an exciting milestone in our growth plans, and they will add significant heft to our platform serving clients in Spain, Europe, and Latin America.”

They are the latest high-profile lawyers to join Latham & Watkins’ Madrid office, following the arrival of corporate partners Juan Picón, Ignacio Gómez-Sancha, and José Antonio Sánchez-Dafos, employment partner Naiara Rodriguez-Escudero, antitrust & competition partner José María Jiménez Laiglesia, and corporate counsel Ana González-Linares.

Molina and Lozano join the firm from Linklaters. Molina graduated with a degree in law from Universidad Complutense Madrid, and an LLM in Industrial and Intellectual Property and EU Law from University College of London. Lozano graduated with degrees in law and business administration from Universidad Pontificia Comillas de Madrid.
