Squire Patton Boggs has announced the appointment of Javier Izquierdo as a partner in its Madrid Litigation Practice. He joins from Pérez-Llorca Abogados, where he was co-head of the Litigation Practice. Mr. Izquierdo, who arrives with a three-lawyer team, is the latest partner to join the firm in Madrid, following the recent addition of Corporate partner Carlos Blanco Morillo and Competition partner Gorka Navea.
With over 20 years’ litigation experience, Mr. Izquierdo practices in the areas of civil and commercial litigation, financial services litigation, insurance, construction litigation and bankruptcy. He has also appeared in arbitrations before the Madrid Chamber of Commerce (CAM), the Commercial and Civil Arbitration Court (CIMA), and before the Arbitration Court of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
Jonathan Jones, European managing partner, commented: “Over the past two years, our focus has been to build and develop our M&A, private equity and financial services offerings across Europe. We have been delighted with the performance of those teams, and how they have successfully broadened the scope and depth of the work we do for clients. In turn, this has created new opportunities for our Litigation Practice, and we have invested in hiring new partners into London, Paris, and now in Madrid to support this demand.
“In bringing Javier and his colleagues to the firm, we have been able to secure the services of a market leading team who will be able to take our practice to the next level.”
Madrid office managing partner Teresa Zueco added: “We are excited to welcome Javier to the firm. Javier is recognized as one of the country’s leading litigators and we are pleased that he has decided to join us with his top flight team.”
Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Izquierdo said: “Squire Patton Boggs’ strong global Litigation Practice, ambitious growth plans and dynamic office in Madrid make the firm an excellent fit for my practice and my clients.”
