Jones Day Continues Expansion in Mexico City, Welcomes Banking & Finance Partner Alejandro Chico and Global Disputes Partner Antonio Gonzalez

The global law firm Jones Day has announced that two partners have joined the Firm’s Mexico City OfficeAlejandro Chico will be part of Jones Day’s Banking & Finance Practice. He arrives from Bufete Robles Miaja, where he was a partner in that firm’s capital markets practice. Antonio Gonzalez will be part of Jones Day’s Global Disputes Practice. He arrives from Lopez Melih, Gonzalez, Facha y Estrada, where he was a founding and administrative partner. With the addition of these two new partners, Jones Day has added five partners in Mexico City this year and now has 37 lawyers there.

“Alejandro’s appointment is part of our strategy to add depth to our Capital Markets and Banking & Finance practices in Mexico, and more broadly in Latin America, and his vast experience with FIBRAs (Mexican REITs), CKDs, publicly held companies, underwriters, and lenders represents another step forward in that plan,” said Fernando de Ovando, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day’s Mexico City Office. “His arrival, along with the addition of Antonio and his vast experience in high-profile disputes throughout Mexico, strengthen our full service capabilities in Mexico City and we’re excited to have them with us.”

Mr. Chico has practiced law for more than 15 years and advises national and international companies on corporate, banking and finance, mergers and acquisitions, and capital markets matters. His extensive experience includes private and public offerings in both Mexican and U.S. markets (Rule 144A and Regulation S) representing issuers and underwriters, as well as financings, acquisitions, and other transactions in Mexico and abroad. He also advised on the structuring and placing of two of the most important FIBRAs in Mexico. Mr. Chico is a graduate of the Universidad Anahuac and has an LL.M. from the University of Miami. He has spoken at local and international forums and before the United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Gonzalez has been active representing public agencies and private companies in litigation and arbitration concerning contractual disputes, shareholder disputes, and restructurings for the past 15 years. He has participated in numerous high-profile disputes in Mexico, and served as lead counsel in a variety of complex litigation matters for both domestic and international private companies, as well as government entities. Mr. Gonzalez started his career as an associate in the firm Quijano, Cortina, López y de la Torre, Abogados and in 2007 later became a founding partner of the firm Lopez Melih, Gonzalez, Facha y Estrada. He is a graduate of the Universidad Panamericana.
