Alberto de la Parra, Former General Counsel for Grupo Mexico, Joins Jones Day

The global law firm Jones Day has announced that Alberto de la Parra, former General Counsel for Grupo Mexico, one of the largest mining, railroad and infrastructure companies in Mexico, joined the Mexico City Office as partner in the Banking & Finance Practice, effective January 15.

“The addition of Alberto to our Banking & Finance Practice in Mexico adds to our growing worldwide experience in infrastructure and energy finance. We are pleased that he has joined us as he will add considerable knowledge to our practice,” said Brett Barragate, the New York-based partner who co-chairs Jones Day’s Banking & Finance Practice.

In his role as General Counsel, Mr. de la Parra also served as Secretary of the Board of Directors for Grupo México from 2007 until 2012 and was member of the Board of Southern Copper Corporation, a NYSE listed company. He has extensive experience in the infrastructure and energy sectors, structuring complex privatizations, project financing, and structured financing to develop wind farms, electric power plants, and airport infrastructure, among others.

Prior to joining Grupo Mexico, he was partner at Galicia y Robles and Santamarina y Steta and served, among others, as Secretary of the Board of Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste, Grupo Papalero Scribe, Kimberly Clark de México, Operadora Méxicana de Aeropuertos, Ferrocarril Mexicano, and Compañía Mexicana de Gas.

Mr. de la Parra is a graduate of the Escuela Libre de Derecho (JD 1990), one of the most prestigious law schools in Mexico.
