Baker & McKenzie Welcomes New Pharmaceutical Practice Leader in Mexico City

Baker & McKenzie announces that Christian Alejandro López-Silva joined the Firm as the head of its Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences legal practice. Dr. López-Silva brings more than 14 years of experience to the Mexican offices of the Firm where he will coordinate the various practices that are focused on the Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences industry, enriching with his experience the multidisciplinary team of professionals serving important companies in this industry in Mexico.

Prior to joining Baker & McKenzie, Dr. López-Silva served as Director of the Life Sciences Practice Group at his previous firm, providing legal advice for the manufacturing, importation, distribution and marketing of healthcare products which includes pharmaceutical products, medical devices, food and beverage, cosmetics, hygiene products, chemicals and pesticides.

Throughout his career, Dr. López-Silva has gained extensive legal experience in life sciences and biotechnology matters, working in the private and public sector at both the domestic and international level. He graduated with honors from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) with a law degree, he also has a Masters Degree on Biotechnological Law and Ethics at the University of Sheffield in England, and a Ph.D. on International Regulatory Life Sciences from the same university. He has given numerous lectures and conferences on Pharmaceutical Regulation and Life Sciences for various national and international institutions.

Dr. López-Silva has been recognized as an international thought leader on Life Sciences Regulations by important organizations, including the United Nations Program for the Environment (UNEP), based in Montreal, and the International Law Association (ILA) based in London. He is also Founding President of the Mexican Association of Law and Health Regulation AC (AMDERSA). Most recently, he was ranked as a leading lawyer in the Life Sciences Practice in Mexico by Chambers & Partners Guide Latin America 2013.
